Doja Cat’s mother, Deborah Elizabeth Sawyer, has sought legal protection from her son, Ramon Dalithando Dlamini, who is accused of being physically and verbally abusive to the rapper and her mother. According to the court documents obtained by Page Six, Sawyer claims that Dlamini, 30, once knocked out Doja Cat’s teeth in a violent attack, and also gave her cuts and bruises. She also alleges that he stole and damaged some of the rapper’s personal belongings, and threatened to kill her.
A History of Violence and Threats
Sawyer states in the filing that Dlamini has been abusive toward his sister, Doja Cat, whose real name is Amala Ratna Zandile Dlamini, in a “very degrading and demeaning manner” which made the rapper feel “unsafe and traumatized”. She also claims that Dlamini has been physically abusive toward her “several times”, and that he has a history of mental illness and substance abuse.
The filing reveals that the most recent violent incident occurred earlier this month when Dlamini allegedly assaulted Sawyer and damaged her property. She also says that Dlamini has threatened to kill her on multiple occasions and that she fears for her life and safety.
Sawyer notes that she was granted a temporary restraining order against Dlamini in 2017, but it has since expired. She requests a new restraining order that would prohibit Dlamini from contacting, harassing, or coming near her or Doja Cat, and that would require him to undergo anger management and substance abuse counseling.
A Judge Grants Temporary Protection
According to TMZ, a judge has granted Sawyer’s request for a temporary restraining order against Dlamini and has scheduled a hearing for a permanent order. However, the judge did not grant protection for Doja Cat and ruled that she needed to request a restraining order on her own.
Doja Cat, 30, is one of the most popular and successful rappers in the music industry, with hits such as “Say So”, “Kiss Me More”, and “Woman”. She has won several awards, including an American Music Award, a Billboard Music Award, and an MTV Video Music Award. She has also been nominated for four Grammy Awards.
Doja Cat and Dlamini are the children of South African actor Dumisani Dlamini, who is best known for his roles in “Sarafina!” and “The Lion King” musicals. Doja Cat has never met her father but has expressed admiration for his dancing skills in an interview with Ebro Darden’s Apple Music show.
Doja Cat has not commented on the restraining order or the allegations against her brother. She is currently working on her fourth studio album, “Planet Her (Deluxe)”, which is expected to be released later this year.
