Jennifer Lawrence’s Wedding Surprise with Robert De Niro

Jennifer Lawrence, the Oscar-winning actress and star of “No Hard Feelings”, has opened up about her experience of being a bride and how she asked her longtime friend and co-star Robert De Niro to leave her wedding rehearsal dinner in 2019.

In an interview with E! News at the Golden Globes red carpet on Sunday, Lawrence said that being a bride was “awful” and that she was “freaking out” about the guests being cold at the reception. She said that she looked over and saw De Niro, who did not know anyone at the event, wandering around and decided to tell him to go home.

“I immediately was like, ‘No, this isn’t what he wants to be doing. I don’t want him here.’ So I went over and whispered, I was like, ‘Go home,’ and he was nice,” Lawrence said. “He like talked to my parents and was polite — but I was like, ‘Go.’”

Lawrence added that after De Niro left, she felt “better” and that he did not take her wedding invitation seriously. She said that he came anyway because he is a good friend.

Lawrence married Cooke Maroney in October 2019 after getting engaged in February 2019. The couple have a son named Cy, who was born in February 2022. The wedding reception took place at the Belcourt of Newport, a historic mansion in Rhode Island designed by architect Richard Morris Hunt.

Lawrence’s mother, Karen Lawrence, also revealed that she told De Niro to leave because it was freezing outside. She said that her daughter’s grandmother almost died from hypothermia during the reception.

Lawrence has previously worked with De Niro in three films: “Silver Linings Playbook” (2012), “American Hustle” (2013), and “Joy” (2015). She said that they have great chemistry on screen but not so much off-screen.

“I love him as an actor,” Lawrence said. “He’s amazing. But we’re not friends.”
