Texan Sues Walmart: $100 Million Claim or Free Shopping for Life

A Texas man is suing Walmart for the second time in three years, claiming that he was falsely accused of shoplifting and racially discriminated against at a store in Omaha, Nebraska, in March 2021.

Roderick Jackson, of Waskom, Texas, filed two handwritten complaints on Monday with the US District Court for the Western District of Arkansas, where Walmart’s headquarters are located. He is seeking $100 million in damages or “unlimited free lifetime shopping” at any Walmart location. He also wants Walmart to pay all his court fees.

Jackson’s complaints do not provide any details about the alleged incident, but state that it involved “false pretense of shoplifting” and the violation of his civil rights “based on race/color.”

Walmart said in a statement that it does not tolerate discrimination of any kind and intends to defend itself against the allegations once it has been properly served. The company also said that Jackson’s claims are almost identical to a lawsuit he filed against Walmart in 2021, which was dismissed because he failed to serve Walmart and his claims had no merit.

Jackson’s first lawsuit, filed in 2021, also sought $100 million in damages and “a huge credit for future shopping.” He later amended his complaint to ask for $175 million. He claimed that he was racially profiled and falsely accused of a crime, which led to his arrest. He said he suffered emotional stress and pain from the handcuffs.

Jackson filed both lawsuits without an attorney and could not be reached for comment.
